How does a republic have the ability to change into an empire?
The Rise of Rome
The city of Rome's location was beneficial, because it was located 18 miles inland on the Tiber River where it was safe from pirates and their position made it easy for them to defend themselves. The Roman City was known as a stopping point since it was a halfpoint for the Mediterranean Sea. Rome also was known as a republic. A republic is a form of government in which the leader is not the king and certain citizens had the right to vote, except the lower class and slaved. Rome was divided into two social classes, the plebeians and the patricians. The patricians were the wealthy, powerful landowners, who formed the ruling class. The plebeians was made up of minor landholders, craftspeople, merchants, and small farmers. The rulers were two, the consuls and the praetors. The consuls was the chief executive who whould lead the army into battles while the praetor would be in charge of enforcing the civil law.
Then war struck. The First Punic War began which was the fight between Rome and Carthage for the land of Sicily. Rome won, but it wasn't long until the Second Punic War began. This war was also won by Rome, leading into its expansion in land by gaining Spain.

From Republic to Empire
Chaos struck. Farmers, who were most of the population, lost their land and were moved into cities. They had a decrease in food, land, and income, but an increase in disease. Then the First Triumvirate was established. A triumvirate is a government by three people with equal power. The first one was ruled by Caesar, Pompey, and Crassus. But the First Triumvirate led to civil war. Later on, Caesar became dictator but was hated by the people somuch that he was killed. So the Second Triumvirate was established by Antony, Octavian, and Lepidus, but the civil war still continued. Octavian changed his name to Augustus and became dictator but got involved in a love triangle which didn't end well.
The Early Roman Empire
Advancements in math, science, and technology had been found. In math, the use of rectangles and roman numerals were founded. In Science, the study of medicine was highly appreciated. The technology evolutionized by the creation of aqueducts, extensive network of lead/ clay pipes, sewers, and drainage. The art differed from Greeks, because Romans maid their seem realistic, showing flaws.
The social life of people in Rome had evolved. Paterfamilias was established, where the dominant male was head of the household, which also includes their children and slaves. Later on, paterfailias came to and end and the females were allowed some freedom, like not being required to have a guardian male. Slaves became very important in Rome, since they were now tutors, doctors, musicians, and artists, or cooks, waiters, cleaners, and gardeners for the household. Rome's entertainment came from Greece, by having horse- racing, theater (drama, tradegy, comedy, and satire). The education was only received by the wealthy class. For boys, school finished at age 16. For girls, the had to get married at age 12 or 13.
